I wish the Urban Outfitters Lana Velvet Pouf ($89) had been on my radar when a TeamSugar member asked me to find an ottoman featured in Teen Vogue. This cushy, tufted velvet number is a close second to the one she had her eye on, but its spring green, chocolate, and royal purple fabrics are more versatile colors. The pouf itself is also quite the Renaissance piece; you can use it as seating, a foot rest, a table, or simply a decorative place to stack pillows or throws. The drawback is that the pouf is made from polyester velvet, not silk or cotton, but for $89 you get what you pay for. What do you think?

I’m not even in the market for new bedding, but there’s something about an exceptional piece of velvet that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (i.e. want to shop). Pottery Barn knows what I’m talking about: the retailer’s new Velvet Linen Quilts and Shams (originally $39-$299, on sale for $24-$179) have that soft, weighty, and wintry texture and elegant diamond hand-quilting that instantly win my attention. Throw in the wide range of colors available (choose from sherwood green, sapphire blue, chrome gray, green apple, glacier blue, deep wisteria purple, orange, espresso, or ivory) and the reduced price, and where do I sign? That was easy. Now, getting me out of bed is another story . . .

Love It or Hate It? The Drapers' Headboard

Whenever there's a scene in Mad Men involving the Drapers' bedroom, my eyes are always drawn to their tufted velvet headboard. Its color, texture, and tufting are over-the-top feminine, and reflect nothing of Don's removed masculinity. But maybe that's the point of this headboard — to reflect how removed Don Draper is from his home and its contents and inhabitants. Photo Courtesy of AMC

Definitely! I love the tufting, the velvet, the color, it's amazing.

Maybe, if I could convince the dude in the house it wasn't emasculating to sleep on this bed.

Crave Worthy: Paul McCobb Velvet Sofa

As I've mentioned before, I have a slight addiction to velvet furniture. This Paul McCobb velvet sofa ($5,000) is no exception. McCobb, who was known for his practical, flexible designs, worked in the US after WWII and catered to middle-class buyers, though since then his designs have been more coveted (and pricey). This vintage McCobb sofa is upholstered in a dreamy celedon hue, and features gorgeous curves, button tufting, and pretty plunging arms. I'm also rather attached to those slender legs as well. Fall Luxury: Blue Velvet

Shak in Style recently blogged about the gorgeous, luxe look of blue velvet, and I absolutely fell in love with the photos she chose, and had to repost them here. I love how rich and warm these colors and textures appear. I've actually owned both a green and a burgundy Victorian velvet sofa, though I would've vastly preferred a deep, rich blue velvet over either of those colors.
