If you're over the starburst mirror trend, but are still digging its celebratory shape and retro vibe, don't go anywhere. There is hope for your home. The Urban Outfitters Iron Work Wall Mirror ($29.99, reduced from $48.00) has that same bursting shape, but is decorated with a filigree of white palm leaves in classic Hollywood Regency style. You might not be able to use it for more than applying a little lipstick, but it will certainly add a fabulous decorative element to your home. Doesn't it just scream Palm Springs? I'd love to hang it on some retro wallpaper near a mid-century credenza.

Steal of the Day: Painted Circle Crewel Round Pillow

Crewelwork is a decorative form of surface embroidery that uses wool and a variety of different embroidery stitches, and dates back at least one thousand years. But, the technique was trendy in the '90s (think granny tapestry), and has been "out" for at least ten years now. When I spotted this Urban Outfitters Painted Circle Crewel Round Pillow ($25, reduced from $38), I was impressed with the modern use of crewelwork in bright colors, dashes, and organic circles. On the other hand, I was not surprised. Leave it to Urban Outfitters to be ironic in every way possible.

I find something innately romantic with using a valance instead of a full curtain. It's like a sweet ruffle on a pretty dress, and they nicely frame a window that doesn't need to be covered, for privacy's sake, with regular curtains. Only available online, this Swedish Geo Window Valance ($10) is from Urban Outfitters, and made of cotton. I adore the green tones in the pattern and think this would look lovely in a kitchen. If you want the bottom curtain, too, it'll cost you a modest $24, and is available here.

Wow, well this is unexpected. While I'd expect to find a solar charger for your gadgets at a more eco-oriented store, I never thought I'd see one at Urban Outfitters. However, it makes sense that this company is selling chargers, since so many of their customers have a glut of gadgets that need recharging.

The Solio Solar Charger ($80) combines a solar panel with a rechargeable battery and comes in a durable case that will provide needed protection for the charger when it's stashed in a backpack or overstuffed purse. The charger also comes with interchangeable charging tips that will attach to most mobile phones, iPods, and other mobile devices. The battery will store power for up to a year, and if the sun isn't out, you can blog the charge into a USB port to charge it up via your laptop. What a great idea — and when a solar charger is sold at a big retailer like Urban Outfitters (though it's only available on the Internet for now), it's more likely that the idea of charging your gadgets with the sun's power will become commonplace.

Urban Outfitters has a new class of home furnishings in school that are quite delightful. I'm seeing a lot of ethnic-inspired embroidery, retro 70s prints, folky florals, and patterns in unlikely places. There's also the token dose of "F*ck Off It's My Birthday" Pint Glasses and Beer Goggles, which isn't quite my thing. For the good stuff, check out this widget to see what caught my eye.

Love It or Hate It? Love Pillowcase Set

Although Love Shack month is officially over, I still have to ask if you love to love this Urban Outfitters Love Pillowcase Set ($24). To me, it looks like a bad photocopy that is bleeding, which is far from romantic. I'd hate to skew your response, but I wouldn't choose to lay my head on it, let alone bring it near my house.

Cool Idea: A Curtain-Paneled Sofa

Vanessa De Vargas of decor8 was recently confronted with the challenge of re-designing a client's record label office so that it felt like she was working from home. She brought in a tufted sofa from JCPenney (no longer available) to cozy up the room, but its plain vanilla fabric had no kick to impress her high-profile rock and pop clients.

She got inventive without dropping big bucks on reupholstering the entire thing and instead had her upholsterer "sew a red and white curtain panel from Urban Outfitters right down the center." I think the result is chic and youthful, and certainly not your average Victorian sofa.

Steal of the Day: Kurt Halsey Art Triptych

Way back during her junior-high years, my sister went to art camp in Wisconsin with Kurt Halsey, who at the tender age of 14 was already developing his signature style. If you're a fan of his work, you'll want to snatch up this Kurt Halsey Wanderlust Triptych ($19.99, was $40), available exclusively from Urban Outfitters. Each of these three pieces is printed on stretched cotton canvas and comes ready for hanging. Hurry though — I doubt that Urban Outfitter's supply will last long.

This Just in: Urban Outfitters Gets Its Garden On

According to WWD, Urban Outfitters Inc. is acquiring J. Franklin Styer Nurseries Inc., a garden center in Philadelphia, for an undisclosed price. Here's more:

“Styer’s Nursery will launch [Urban’s] previously announced fourth brand, Terrain,” the retailer said in a statement. “The goal of Terrain is to transform the local garden center into an experience that celebrates the beauty and abundance of nature while offering an eclectic mix of garden-inspired products tailored for the contemporary customer.”

Richard A. Hayne, chairman and founder of Urban Outfitters, said the company looks “forward to growing Styer's existing business and integrating it into our Terrain brand. We believe Terrain at Styer's will become one of the premier contemporary garden centers in the country.”

I can't wait to see all of the cool garden styles that Terrain will come up with!

I'm pretty surprised by this ceramic pink botanical Urban Outfitters Tea for One Set ($24). The floral print is so different from their usual inventory—in a good way! It's classic and elegant, rather than seasonal and trendy. Each set comes with a single-serving teapot with lid and a matching mug that rests below it for easy storage. Maybe tea for one isn't as fun as tea for two (or three or four), but poured into this set, it's a treat! It would also make a great holiday gift for the single gals that you know.

I'm pleased, but not surprised to see these DIY Nesting Dolls ($12) new at Urban Outfitters, which outfitted my Trend Alert: Non-Souvenir Matryoshka Dolls widget last week with three other matryoshka décor items. I have a sneaking suspicion that their buyer moonlights on the Russian tourism board...but regardless, the bare surface of these dolls is a blank canvas for anyone with a creative touch.

One of my best friends had a cuckoo clock growing up, and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. But as an adult, I've never been into the whole German-kitsch look, so I was never particularly interested in bringing a cuckoo clock into my life.
