Now, it's no secret that I have a chronically soft spot in my heart for Anthropologie sofas and chairs. So imagine my delight when I found out that their upholstered furniture is now 25 percent off through Sept. 30.

Many people prefer neutral colors when choosing a sofa, but bright jewel tones can really pack a design punch. What's your style?

One thing that's awesome about Ikea sofas is that nearly all of them have covers that are removable and washable. This makes them great for living with kids or very messy people. Even if you're neat as a pin and child-free, though, the novelty of switching out the look of your living room for less than $250 is certainly a treat.

Slipcovers are a pretty great invention for klutzes like myself, who often eat, and frequently spill, on the sofa. They can be balled up and machine washed like a coffee-stained white blouse. But they don't look as polished as an upholstered sofa, and unless you have one specially made, the fabric selection is minimal.

I've actually taken a look at tufted velvet fainting sofas before, but I'm back for more to truly stump you. For the next installment of this game, take a look at each of these apple green fainting sofas and see if you can answer my questions about them.

I've had my eye on this brilliantly printed Ditte Sofa ( on sale for $1,799.95, was $3,498) for many moons now. The adorable fabric design is by way of Marimekko, and the Teflon-coated canvas will help to ensure that any coffee stains or unfortunate wine accidents will wash right out. With a kiln-dried hardwood frame and a polyfill-down blend stuffing, this sofa will be both wildly attractive and wonderfully sturdy.

For those of you wondering how to decorate a studio, or just living in a small space, I've always emphasized that dual-purpose furniture is key. A pull-out sofa will accommodate overnight guests and serve as seating during the day. At 66" wide, the West Elm Convertible Sofa ($799) is a great size for a studio.

Though I'm not a mathematician by trade, I still believe that the Royalton Sofa ($9,335) — designed by Philippe Starck in 1991 — can be expressed by the following formula: Settee + Headboard = Royalton. The ever-resourceful and always surprising Starck is responsible for many unique designs, including my fave, the Louis Ghost Chair.
Of course, I'm more likely to spend 10G on my garden than on this piece of furniture — let's face it, if your dog secretly jumps on your sofa, it's never a good idea to drop a lot of money on such a royal piece.

"A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful," asserts designer Pierre Paulin, responsible for the ABCD Two-Seater Sofa ($3,516). While this sofa is available in a variety of fabrics, I kind of like the groovy '60s inspired pattern shown here.

When it comes to rainy Friday nights, there's nothing better than curling up on the sofa with your shoes off. But when it comes to sofas, there's always a good, better, and a best. This go-round, I'm going to take a look at the trifecta of mid-century sofas, tufted, buttoned, clean-lined, and ready to make an appearance in a living room near you.
Good: Quite possibly named after everyone's favorite Mexican beer, the Macy's Corona Sofa ($899) conjures up all sorts of jokes about going South of the border.
