Lace is a key trend for
Autumn 2008 most prominently appearing on the catwalk at Prada where skirts, dresses and bags were made out of the delicate fabric. However, now that the trend has begun to filter on the High Street you no longer need a Prada budget to stay on trend.
Earlier this week I suggested ways to
wear lace tights and today I have managed to find the Prada lace skirt look for less.

There has been a lot of talk of skirts recently so I thought it would be helpful to define a few of the different styles starting with the pencil skirt. This is often described as a wardrobe staple (most recently
by Nina Garcia) but just what defines the style?

We may currently be in the midst of
London Fashion Week but New York Fashion Week is already over, which means people are already predicting trends for Spring 2009. The main trend which was emerged is the return of separates, namely skirts!
We've all been complacent about easy-to-throw on dresses for several seasons but now it seems the attention is moving back to the skirt spotted on the runway at
trend-setter Marc Jacobs. The skirt is back in a variety of shapes from uber-short bubble skirts to pencil to a-line.

New York Fashion Week isn't just about the shows, there are also a whole lot of parties! After his show this week,
Marc Jacobs attended Jennifer Hudson's album launch celebration with friend Victoria Beckham.
Marc is never one to shy away from controversy so his outfit choice isn't exactly surprising.

As we see the return of separates in the fashion world this trend merges with the architectural vibe to create the tulip skirt. Pencil skirts are a wardrobe essential but tulip skirts make the look a bit edgier and are often more flattering. They feature exaggerated detail on the hips which hides a multitude of sins!

If you're sale shopping this month then be sure to look out for a bubble skirt. The unusual shape item is great for the Summer if you team with gladiator sandals and then even better in the winter with tights and brogues.
They appeared on the catwalk at Miu Miu and
PPQ to name but a few.

When I first laid eyes on this
Diane von Furstenberg Henry Tiered Sweater Skirt ($345), it was love at first site. I am a sucker for grey, especially when it comes to cozy knits, and anything DVF. A couple days later, not so much.

If you didn't realise already, bright colours are big news for Spring/Summer and what better way to make a statement than with a block colour mini skirt? The block colour trend takes inspiration from art deco and works best in small amounts so miniskirts are perfect. They don't have to be bright coloured but it depends on the impact you want to create.

It's only the first month of the new year but that doesn't mean we can't think ahead to Spring. This
Max Studio Silk Voile Skirt ($44, originally $128) is a pretty place to start. It's flouncy, flirty, and a bit
global chic.

Let's not skirt the issue: Girlfriend, you need to go up a size. (No ifs, ands, or butts about it!)
