San Francisco artist Megan Wilson has spent five years turning her Nob Hill apartment from a white-walled boring rental into a psychedelic fantasia of color and pattern. Unfortunately, her very cool home art project has been suspended, as her landlord is kicking her out. Under the Ellis Act, he has evicted all of the occupants of the building so he can change its use.

On Nov. 18, 1978, more than 900 people living in the intentional community (a polite way of saying commune) Jonestown
committed suicide. Their weapon of choice?

When I hear the word appletini, I can't help but cringe and think of a cloying, neon green cocktail. That's why, while at a recent
Root Division art auction, when I saw that the specialty cocktail was an appletini, I avoided it. However, when I heard the appletini was a creation of one of San Francisco's best bartenders,
H.
San Francisco Fabionistas Hey gals. If we happen to be neighbors, and you live in the best city in the world, join this group! I will be posting any local Fab events, either hosted by Fab or in general, that might be of interest.

Earlier today, at 1 p.m. PST to be exact, history was made at the
Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco. Irish coffee making champion Frank Silletti, in conjecture with the staff of the Buena Vista, made the world's largest
Irish coffee.

One evening this weekend, I passed by one of my favorite local design shops here in San Francisco, FLIPP (Fashionable Living in Petite Places), and couldn't help but notice the window display. On a settee next to a vintage portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the shopkeepers set a copy of The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama — a subtle and handsome way to show political support. Considering that Obama's challenges ahead are
being compared to those of Lincoln, it's also quite appropriate.

I'm a big fan of public art in general, and I'm digging the childlike whimsy contained in these aluminum sculptures, entitled "Moonrise Sculptures: March, October, and December." Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, who often adapts pop culture phrases into unique art pieces, is responsible for these cartoon-like busts, which sit outside a plaza in downtown San Francisco. Would you want similar sculptures in your city or town?

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of speaking with three of San Francisco's busiest chefs, the men behind the
PlumpJack restaurant kitchens.
Jack Falstaff's Jonnatan Leiva,
PlumpJack Cafe's Rick Edge, and
Balboa Cafe's Jose Lemus each stopped by Balboa to deliver a batch of their ultimate chili. The chefs, along with the firefighters of Station 16, are taking part in an annual chili cook-off, benefiting the
San Francisco Firefighter Toy Program.

Recently I attended a female-only cocktail competition hosted by
Nirvino. While I've been to many cocktail competitions, I always look forward to Nirvino's monthly contest because the crowd gets to taste each cocktail and ultimately decides the winning drink.
Nirvino is an exciting social networking community where drinking is the common denominator.
