Cozy Up Your Wiimotes and Nunchucks

Multiple remotes are the bane of my nesting existence. I'm excited whenever we get a new gadget or console, but when I see new remotes or controllers, I curse a little to myself.

These Remote Control Pockets for the Wii, just $8 each, are my first step to corralling my remote mess. The nunchucks and Wiimotes are cozied in there adorably, plus the organization factor is where it's at.

I think I'll take a cue from these and get other baskets to put on my coffee table for remotes. I'm already feeling better about my organizational skills!

Feeling Drained? Clean Up Your Desk

Around three in the afternoon, my energy often feels zapped. Sometimes all I need is a handful of walnuts, but other times a snack is not enough.

I have found that clearing my desk of clutter actually helps me think more clearly. When my desk is a mess and covered with Post-it notes and dirty coffee mugs, my brain feels muddled, too. Generally, I clean my desk at the end of the day, but when my energy is dragging in the afternoon I clean it thenk. On these slow days, I clean up my virtual desktop, too. If you're dragging right now, why not try it?

I used to pride myself on my impeccable memory, but lately I’ve had trouble remembering the silliest things, like the time of my dentist appointment and if I’m supposed to meet my girlfriend on Friday or Saturday night. Casa Quickie: Taper Treatment

I think most would agree that Martha Stewart seems a little OCD about organization . . . if there's anyone who can make a home a picture of perfection, it's her. Personally, I like to have a little mess in my digs: it calms me. But, where guests are concerned, I look to Martha as a guide. My mother has always had an elegant dining room with a sideboard that neatly stores her fine silverware, table linens, tapers, and matches — the perfect arrangement for entertaining. But, it has always vexed me that her candles get scratched up as they roll around in her drawers. I know, it's irrational to be irritated by such a trivial matter.
Again, Martha saves the day. To keep your tapers in tip-top form, she suggests wrapping them in tissue paper and slipping them into a recycled paper towel roll. Genius!

Jawbone: The Britney Mic For Mamas

Trying to carry on a conversation with two tots in tow can be cumbersome. Add the background noise of their blaring toys, the television or radio, and I can barely hear myself think let alone talk to someone on the other end of a phone line. So when the folks at Aliph sent me their Jawbone ($130) Bluetooth headset, I figured I'd give it a whirl.

The muted gold colored earpiece fit easily on my ear and had just enough fashionable bling to make my 22-month-old want to bat at it. The sound blocking technology did a great job of stifling background noise so I could engage in an uninterrupted discussion. And, since it's illegal to drive in California while chit chatting into a cell phone, this could also come in handy in the car.

Open House: Where Do You Need to Organize?

I'm currently in the process of organizing my closet, but because entropy is inevitable, there's been a lot of deliberation about what system works best for me. I've figured out how to best organize my hangers, and am trying to be diligent about hanging my clothes back up after I try them. And, I've organized my tops and sweaters by color. But I'm still working on the shoes; I think I have a gene that prevents me from keeping them in order, or at least looking neat. There are a few other war zones in my house that need to be handled with a peace treaty of some sort as well, particularly the garage. How about you? What area of your home needs to be organized, or reorganized? Where do you need to implement an actual organization system (inbox, outbox, labels, etc.)?
