I'd love for her to decorate some rooms in my home, but not all.

I love her style, but I'd rather decorate my own home.

Designer Spotlight: Kyle Schuneman

Whether he's designing for interiors, television sets, or as part of a challenge for a show on HGTV, Style, or the DIY Network, designer Kyle Schuneman remains loyal to his company's slogan: "Be You. Live You. Live Well."

I appreciate how Kyle's designs integrate trendy items into comfortable, livable interiors. This young (22-year-old) designer certainly knows his way around small spaces, which are his specialty. While he grew up in Chicago, Kyle is now based out of Los Angeles, where he's worked with companies such as Microsoft, Lipton, and Target. Kyle's style is definitely well-honed already, and I look forward to seeing what this very young designer does in the future years.

I found this sweet photo in interior designer Fawn Galli's portfolio. Fawn, who was named as one of the Domino 10 Decorators for 2008, has a talent for adding quirky elements to elegant interiors. I particularly love the colors in this corner shot, as well as, of course, the matching rocking chairs. Can't you just imagine a little girl and her mom reading books in their rocking chairs together? I love it.

As part of our Best of 2007 polls, you named Charlotte Moss as your favorite interior designer. I do love Charlotte's couture living design philosophy and her attention to detail, so I see where you're coming from. But, I have to say I think the whimsical touches and bold color choices of Sheila Bridges' interiors are more my speed.

In the most basic sense, an interior designer is a professional who is hired to conceptualize and coordinate the interior look of a house or commercial space. A designer typically works with a client to choose everything from the colors, patterns, and artwork to furniture, lighting, and accents. In addition to helping the customer find and purchase new items, the designer also helps incorporate a home's existing pieces into the redesign.

By a stricter professional definition, an interior designer has completed a certification program in her field — either a two-year associate's degree or a four-year degree. Though you don't technically need a degree to work as an interior designer, it is becoming increasingly important. According to the American Society of Interior Designers, half of all states have licensing requirements for designers, and in some jurisdictions, you cannot market yourself as an interior designer without meeting certain educational and testing requirements.
