Before the general populace relied on key cards, laptops,
iPhones, and cars to get through their busy days, such technological advancements as the typewriter, the skeleton key, and the bicycle were the height of fashion. Not only are these classic shapes superbly functional, they're also quite beautiful, which makes them the perfect inspiration for home accessories.
To add some retro tech flair to your home, .
I found some great accents that rely on 19th- and 20th-century motifs. Do you love them, too?

This funky little
kitty statue ($98) from Jonathan Adler's Menagerie collection is decorated with a spotted geometric coat. Would you want it in your home?

Would you decorate your mantel with this
Apres l'Amour Objet ($9,230)?

This bowl of clear glass objets d'art remind me of the cool, clear sea. It's such a welcome change from the saturated colors that I normally favor and would bring a sense of calm to any room where they were displayed.

True sophisticates exude chic down to the last drop. But, they don't need you telling them how to dress or decorate their homes—they've got it covered. So what to give.

This
White Notes 3-D Flower Vase ($19) is a much cheaper version of the
Porcleain Flower Vase ($98) I've been seeing in all the design shops lately. It's handmade of fine bone china, and reinterprets vase shapes of the 1790's by using a white finish to create a modern look. I think the tulip design is so beautiful on its own that it really doesn't even need fresh flowers.

This jolly set of
CAKE Chrome Gnomes ($42) is new at Design Public, and I gotta get my hands on them. I know they're just decorative ceramic figurines, but they're so cute they make me smile. I almost wish they were s&p shakers—wouldn't that be better.
If you read home design magazines, I'm sure you've seen those pricey
crystal ball lamps that are so trendy these days, and maybe you're lucky enough to own one. I personally have not made the splurge, although I've come close several times. So, when I found these
Society Candlesticks ($32) amongst
Anthropologie's new inventory, I knew I'd found an economical alternative to the beauties I'd been pining for.

Maybe it's just because pears are in season here in sunny California, or because I'm still drooling over
YumSugar's bubbly pear cupcakes, but I can't seem to get pears off my mind lately. They seem to be everywhere I look these days, and I'm loving it.
Did you know that there are 30 different species of pears in the world. Well, there are, and there are even more home décor items related to the crisp fruit out there right now.

In case you haven't noticed, I get really excited about
the arrival of autumn. There's something about the crisp, cool air that makes me want to hang a
festive but unfussy wreath and make spiced cider.
Of course, there's nothing more classically autumnal than images of falling leaves, so I've been scouting out some pretty fall accents with a leafy look. The best part about most of my picks is that while they look autumnal, they don't scream fall, so you can also use them year round.
