Of the three main characters on Lipstick Jungle, Brook Shields's character Wendy Healy is my favorite. A movie exec with two kids and a gorgeous husband, Wendy's bohemian and relaxed loft apartment is the perfect hideaway from her busy work life. Mixing traditional and modern elements, the loft is a great example of how to make a variety of disparate pieces work in a space.

The girls of Privileged certainly fit their show's title; spoiled sisters Rose and Sage are being tutored by the hapless Megan, and while their personalities are nothing I envy, I am totally jealous of their closet. Not for the size or the clothes inside, but for its setup: They have back-to-back, hers-and-hers iMacs! In a walk-in closet!

I may have been mystified by the synchronized swimmers during the 2008 Olympics, but they're not the only proof of value in symmetry. By using symmetry as a starting-off point for decorating your interiors, you can create a strong visual theme that looks polished, but not necessarily stiff.
