In many respects, 2008 was a rough year, but let's not forget that there were some great things that came out it — namely, the rise of
bacon. Along with its brother, pork belly, we declared bacon to be one of the
trendiest ingredients of the year. Hopefully, its distinct smoky flavor and marbled, chewy-crispy texture will make it a timeless classic.

Fat has a bad reputation. While some of this rep is deserved, let us not forget that not all fats are bad. In fact, unsaturated fat offers some surprisingly healthy benefits, especially for dieters.

When it comes to fighting the battle of the bulge, it is best to know your enemy as specifically as you can. So let's get as specific as we can, and talk about fat cells.

Forgoing a shepherd's pie ottoman or a Wimbledon coffee table, London-based architecture and design practice Fat created
England's Dreaming as a tribute to its native country in furniture form. The antique chaise is covered at one end by a mini English landscape, juxtaposing scales and references, prompting the lounger to "Lie back and think of England." Giving up buttered grits for health care? As Alabama ballooned to take the #2 spot (right behind #1 ranked
Mississippi) in the national obesity rankings, the state
is cracking down on free health care payouts for state workers who are overweight. It's issued a get-slim-or-pay-up ultimatum for the nearly 40,000 workers on the state's insurance plan.

favorite wild salmon recipe), omega-3s do some wonderful things for your body. Here are five of them.

It looks like those late-night lasagne cravings finally caught up with good ol'
Garfield here. Squeezing through this gate ain't as easy as it used to be, and that's assuming he actually makes it to the other side. It's questionable at this point, but if he sucks it in, hangs onto the wall for resistance, huffs, and puffs, then maybe .

India's state-owned airline, Air India, has just
won the right to prevent attendants from taking flight for carrying on extra weight. The Delhi high court ruled on a case filed by five flight attendants protesting the fact that they'd been grounded by the airline for being too fat to fly. They're expected to appeal.

To keep your skin looking young and radiant, you can do more than apply
sunscreen daily; you can eat fat. Let me clarify. I'm not talking about eating foods high in saturated fat, like ice cream or fried chicken.
