After-Christmas deals don't last long, but a good piece of furniture will. The
West Elm Chunky Console Table ($150) is a stylish modern console that's versatile enough to be used as a landing strip, a console, a buffet, or even a bar table with a set of stools, depending on your needs. Go basic brown with an acorn finish, or infuse a little rouge into your home with a cinnabar finish.

I've been noticing these branch-base console tables at a few of my usual design haunts, and thought perhaps it's a growing a trend. I'm really loving the organic, textural quality they bring to a room, especially considering that many homes are leaning towards a more pared-down, modern look these days.
Good: Shown above is the
Ballard Designs Faux Bois Demilune Table ($699, reduced from $1,495).

One AT:LA reader concealed something not-so-pretty with this stylish modern console table and landing strip in his loft. Can you guess what is hiding there?

I'm always on the lookout for a classic console table to serve as a landing strip for my everyday x, y, and z, on which I can also display decorative objects and books, etc., on a shelf below. I'm thinking that the
Pottery Barn Potrero White Console Table ($249- $329, reduced from $359- $479) might just be the one. Crafted of aluminum, with an
x-base that I love, it's sturdy, classic, and stylish, not to mention functional.

What could be more glamorous than a combination of hand-applied gold leaf, a mirror top, and feminine curves on an Art Deco side table? Nothing seems to come to mind. The
Worlds Away Bennito Side Table ($1180) is an
Eva Zeisel-meets-Grace-Kelly furnishing for the modern woman.

I don't think anyone's going to have a neutral feeling about this
Diva Red Ostrich Console Table ($500). Do you love it? Or does it make you want to stick your head in the sand until it disappears?

Layers of hand-applied lacquer give the robin egg-blue color of the
Gump's Lacquered Side Table ($825) incredible depth; here.
This Gump's exclusive is handcrafted from solid wood with a single dovetailed drawer, trimmed in green and polished by hand. If you can afford it, this console table will make quite the first impression in your front hall.

This
Victoria Hagan for Target Weston Table ($50) is an unbelievable steal. It's a simple, contemporary console table in a cream painted finish that is so basic it would work with most décors. It's also a pretty close match to the
west elm Parsons Low Bookshelf ($300) but has a cool crossed bottom instead.
