Bare Bones: Aqua Bol

With temps still reaching the 70s in SF lately, North and I have been taking advantage of the weather, and going for nice long walks on the weekends. You can pretty much bet that two out of three times, I'll forget to grab his pop-up bowl from my car, leaving me to buy a sports cap bottle in the nearest convenience store and play drinking fountain with it as he laps water mid-air. Although there's nothing wrong with this practice, I've found a solution I will never run out of the house without (unless I forget my wallet . . . and then we're both in trouble): The Aqua Bol ($6).

This simple, yet stylish water bowl comes in three colors, and folds up to the size of a credit card so you can stick it in your wallet when you need it. No more using your hands! Although I'm sure it's the germaphobe in me talking, it feels a little unsanitary for North to drink from my grubby hands after petting other dogs during a walk in the park, and handling his dirty fetching ball. I know I wouldn't want to drink from those hands, so why should he? Either way, this is a genius solution that had me saying, "Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?"

Bare Bones: Jax & Bones Toys and Accessories

While visiting the awesome Heathy Spot pet shop in Santa Monica, I spotted these super cute Rope Toys ($14) from Jax & Bones that I knew North would love to sink his chompers into. Made from 100 percent natural dyed cotton thread, you can be sure that these toys are not only good for hours of chewing fun, but are good for your pooch and the earth. Not only that, but for each toy purchased from Jax & Bones, part of the proceeds will be donated to the Rescue Train Organization, which helps find homes for pets and operates a no-kill rescue program.

But the goodness doesn't stop there — J&B's beds are all eco-friendly and made from 100 percent recycled materials! This brand leaves me with a full shopping cart, as well as good karma. Check out some of my favorite picks from Jax & Bones in the widget below.

I can't get enough of the Lifestyle Innovation Awards from this event, and you may recognize several of the designs from past posts on the site (like Whiner and Diner, Tigrito, and Kevy K.).
Is Your Dog Hungry Like a Wolf? Give 'Em the Poor Pig Bowl

The hunt is on! Let your dog get back to his savage roots (well, sort of) with this Poor Pig Pet Bowl ($24) from Urban Addition. Coming in either gray or pink, this number is not like any other food bowl — Fido gobbles up his meal from piggy's belly, and knows he's done when he gets to the exposed ribs at the bottom! Nom, nom, nom!

Like Urban Addition says, "your cuddly cutie becomes the jungle beast" when eating from this unique dish. Plus when he's done, you can hang the bowl from the ring in piggy's nose, creating a makeshift modern art installation in your own kitchen! I love it when things pull double duty.

Trend Setters: Aluminum Wowo Bowls Are Wow

Now I've been a fan of the well-designed Wowo feeders for quite some time now, and I am totally digging the new metallic models. There's something about the tiny circles and glossy red underbelly that makes my heart pitter-patter.

The Aluminum Wowo 2 Series HD Feeders ($165 and up) still come with removable stainless-steel bowls and in three heights, but now boast a pebbled or hammered aluminum veneer option, in addition to the four wood finishes. Fear not cat lovers, this series has wider and shallower dishes making them better for kitty whiskers, too.

I simply can't decide and often see the products labeled as one or another — technically a dish is "a piece of dishware normally used as a container for holding or serving food" and a bowl is "a round vessel that is open at the top; used chiefly for holding food or liquids," so either word can work . . . right?

Dogs Drink Better (and Slower) With DrinkBetter Bowls

Remember the DogPause for those speedy eaters? Well, there's another version, the EatBetter, as well as this model especially for fluids. I'm especially interested because, although my pooch is quite the gobbler, he most often gets sick by throwing up some clear liquid when he drinks too much too fast.

The DrinkBetter ($25) slowing bowl encourages speedy pups to take their time sipping without slopping or soaking their entire faces. The design features a floating obstacle to control the water's flow; they can only access a small amount of water at a time making them wait – and work – for more. I definitely like the idea, and the aesthetic's not bad either – do your doggies need this?

Off to Market Recap: Fruit Bowl

Citrus fruit used to mean cocktails should be kept at room temperature. However, fruit left to roll around on the counter will only end up bruised or on the floor. A fruit bowl is necessary to properly hold (and display) the citrus. Thus, you headed off to market in search of pretty, stylish bowls that are large enough to fit several limes, lemons, or oranges, but small enough to sit on the kitchen counter without taking up too much space. You bookmarked the bowls in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag, Fruit Bowl.

Check out this incredibly cool bubblicious fruit bowl that jspeed found! Sure to be a conversation starter, it holds all types of spherical fruits and can be changed to rest on any equilibrium. For more bowls, scroll the collection below.

Bare Bones: PDX Dog's Artisan Feeder

We've seen our share of feeders and bowls on the site, but honestly there are few that I could see myself actually picking up. This Artisan Feeder from PDX Dog, which I caught in the newest edition of City Dog, might be one that I would spend my hard-earned money on. Coming in three sizes — six-, 12-, and 18-inch heights — and a number of cool modern colors, I can confidently say that any of these would look great in my apartment.

North already has a set of designer bowls, but if I were shopping for a replacement, the Artisan Feeder could make it on my short list. And since these are all hand-crafted from maple wood, the price tag of $80-$275 doesn't seem all that bad. At least you would know they were unique!
