Right now, I've been stacking my books à la Sapien Bookcase. But, on a traditional bookcase, I think a mix of stacked and standing books gives a space a casual, not-so-stiff vibe. What about you?Source

I'm not much of a prepster, but I've always appreciated the graphic goodness of argyle. The diamond checkerboard pattern has a unique three-dimensional quality that's simply eye-catching. But, don't get any ideas: I won't be sporting an argyle sweater vest any time soon. I'd certainly integrate the Lunar Lounge Argyle Midcentury Shelving Unit into my apartment, though! The multifunctional storage system can store all types of media and decorative items and also serve as a room divider (great for a studio), allowing privacy without adding a visual heaviness to the space. Although it's a midcentury design, I think it still looks modern and fresh.

There are a variety of leaning bookcases out there in the home décor world, some of which would make a great desk for a small bedroom. But why shell out $399 for one when you can pay $99? The JCPenney 35" Wide Leaning Bookshelf ($99) is a pretty fab steal, made of engineered and solid wood with an outlet price. I like how it keeps things visually light (like the Invisible Bookshelf), a great alternative to heavy built-ins, but its tier of five shelves still offers ample storage. What do you think?

Perhaps inspired by my own color-coordinated bookshelves, TeamSugar member Citygal decided to give her Ikea EXPEDIT bookcase a major overhaul of color!In under half an hour, her personal library was transformed from sloppy to sophisticated. She chose to go the rainbow route, beginning with red-toned books at the top, then to greens, blues, pinks, and finally whites and blacks at the bottom. Crave Worthy: Vitra Kast Tall Storage

When you've got storage like the Vitra Kast Tall Storage ($10,695), even your Encyclopedia Brittanica collection can look sexy — all the way from aardvark to zygote. The modular unit has a shelf and wall cupboard combination with colorful sliding doors. Although there's a lot going on with the color palette (pink, dark green, bronze grey, dark blue, sulphur yellow, and bright white), the clean lines and perfect proportions of the unit give it a restrained look that's elegant and distinguished. This is the type of piece that you could build a room around . . . starting with an accent rug with a small pattern, a sofa in a complementary color, bold-printed accent pillows with a happy dose of yellow, a Danish-modern armchair with similar lines, a glass-top coffee table that doesn't compete, and perhaps some silk window panels to add sheen. Who doesn't like to read in the bathtub? Antonio Lupi's Biblio free-standing bathtub has a bookcase built around it, to provide storage for all of your bathtub tomes. I love the idea, but can't imagine books weathering the humidity too well. Source

This has its merits, but it needs some redesign work.

I picked this old bookcase/china cabinet up a few years ago. It has since moved around my house but has found a place in my living room. Stanislav Katz Book Shelving (inquire for price) takes any notion you have of a bookcase and hangs it up on the wall. What looks like a flat steel piece shaped like the silhouette of a traditional armoire lays flush against the wall, with hot pink Ikea Lack-like shelves affixed to it, to cut out an entire dimension of a classic "bookcase." I'd love to see this executed with a wall decal or a can of paint and some basic shelves. What do you think?
