Trend Alert: Plaid Shirts

Plaid shirts (aka tartan) are all the rage this Autumn/Winter. They're warm, comfortable and they look terrific with skinny jeans or cords. Celebrities such as Lauren Conrad from MTV's hit show The Hills has been spotted in three different plaid tops this season alone. There's the turquoise one, the red one and my personal fave, this blue and black cozy flannel. Below are a few tartan tops that I have been eyeing, look them over and let me know which ones you like best.

Trend Alert: Foodies on Facebook

Foodies may be serious about eating, but apparently they're serious about computers: Fast-food chains, food companies, and food celebrities are raising their profiles on social-networking platform Facebook.

Last month, we mentioned that Pizza Hut was the first fast-food chain to launch a Facebook online ordering system, so die-hard users never have to leave the site to order dinner. And yesterday, number one fast-food chain McDonald's launched a Facebook fan site of its own to honor the 25th anniversary of its wildly popular Chicken McNuggets.

In a push to connect to its younger customers, pizza delivery Papa John's has launched a new promotion: Anyone who becomes a "fan" of the Papa John's page on Facebook will receive an online redemption code for a free medium pizza with any online order.

It isn't just fast-food chains who are promoting themselves on Facebook — other food industry insiders are following suit. Candy company Mars advertised its "Get Some Nuts" campaign for Snickers on Facebook, and rumors about Next Food Network Star finalist Lisa Garza spread after she changed her marital status on her Facebook page.

I'm surprised to learn that Facebook has become so important in the world of food. Have you been following the food and beverage industry there?

Trend Alert: Black Flowers at Twilight

When I think of flowers in my hair, I picture bright colors and island vacations, not quite the things I'd associate with teen vampire movies. However, these attendees of the Twilight premiere in LA all chose floral adornments. Hmm, perhaps that song oughta go, "If you're going to a vampire movie, be sure to wear black flowers in your hair."
Anyway, the three ladies had different takes on this hair accessory – but all chose to make a more subtle statement with fake flowers in neutral shades.

Take Jennie Garth, who uses a beaded flower-shaped barrette to hold her hair over her ear – pretty! Then one of the film's stars, Nikki Reed, held back a messy, sideways braid with a black flower I swear I bought at H&M. Finally, Catherine Hardwicke wears a huuuge flower on her ponytail – she's the film's director, so why not go over the top?

Check out how Kate rocked an extra voluminous bronze Burberry frock, while Nicole Kidman radiated in a white shaggy mini by L'Wren Scott at the Australia premiere. If you're not keen on wearing this look head-to-toe, try separates like Tomei in her Alberta Ferretti skirt. Take the plumage and shake a tail feather.

Attack of the LBD, The Sequel

I normally hate sequels, but how can you hate when it features a much-loved fashion star, the LBD? The first time around was not enough. More ladies of glamour appeared at events in the classic LBD. But really, what is a classic LBD? These dresses, from designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Jolibe, Dolce & Gabbana, and Alberta Ferretti, are anything but classic. Call it an oxymoron, but the LBD stays strong.

Trend Alert: The Blonde Chubby

Fun, fun, and fun. Nothing says Casino glamour like the blonde chubby. This is something I think Sharon Stone's turbulent character wore several of throughout the Scorsese film, and, she looked fabulous. These can be found in real or faux fur, brand spanking new or vintage. How much do you want to bet Rachel Zoe's little chubbie is vintage? Emmy's hugs her shoulders just so and jazzes up her blue Alberta Ferretti frock. Sarah Michelle let her Juicy Couture chubby outshine her all-black ensemble — there's nothing wrong with that. Three attempts, three successes. The blonde chubby lives on.

Spotted: Victoria and little Cruz showing off their holiday spirit in LA. While the wee one rocked a festive Santa hat — Lil can break his outfit down to you — Victoria kept it posh in a hunter green suede dress. Though hard to come by, these sumptuous frocks are well worth the search. Word to the wise: Vintage shops are a cheap alternative to paying exuberant retail prices. I found my vintage suede Yves Saint Laurent dress at a local consignment store for only $30 dollars — score!

Trend Alert: Smart Denim

Denim has experienced a bit of a makeover this festive season as it appears slightly in disguise for smart attire. From Alexander McQueen to Miss Selfridge it seems we'll all be wearing sneaky denim soon!

It's a great fabric for dresses as it usually gives a bit as you wear it meaning it fits you shape nicely. Knowing this, I would recommend buying a size that either fits perfectly or is slightly small (rather than slightly large).

Beyonce was recently spotted wearing a denim military jacket by Alexander McQueen which looked amazing. See below for more examples of smart denim for the party season.
