Like a lot of you, I love Ikea. I would never want to outfit my apartment solely with Ikea products, but there are a lot of items in the store that are so versatile that I can easily integrate them into my house. The issue with Ikea products, for me, is that there's often a huge range in quality among items. So, what are your go-to Ikea items that you know won't fail you? Do you love their wool rugs? I'm truly surprised by the ingenuity of the readers and DIYers on Ikea Hacker, a site that documents home enthusiasts' adventures in transforming Ikea furniture and accessories into something unexpected. Take Markus, a DIYer with an enthusiasm for the "As-Is" section in Ikea (I admit that I, as well, love this section). He says, "My favorite area of Ikea is the 'As-Is' section. And one of my favorite parts of the 'As-Is' section is where they have all their wood parts, such as drawer fronts, cabinet doors, desk parts, etc. I love the variety in color, size and finish of the pieces. Tons of ideas come to mind as I look through the assortment."

Markus found four identical 13.75-inch square white pieces of MDF in the "As-Is" section, and since they were only $0.99 each, he decided to experiment with them.

Now through Tuesday, Nov. 11, Ikea is offering up to 20 percent off of kitchen purchases. Those of you who are doing kitchen remodels, listen up! If you spend a minimum of $2,500 on an Ikea kitchen, you will instantly receive 10 percent off your entire purchase. If you add two appliances, you'll save 15 percent off your entire purchase. Add three, save 20 percent. I think there are some pieces, like cabinets, that you may as well save money on if you can. When it comes to other pieces like appliances, sometimes it's better to splurge! Just do your research before you shop. The discounts are pretty great, so check 'em out!

The Sweet Spot: Park(ing) Day With CasaSugar

As you may know, on Friday I participated in Park(ing) Day and created my very own park (complete with sod!) on the streets of San Francisco. You can check out a video of the day here.
