A BJP's worst nightmare..

So through some series of unfortunate events, I've contracted viral conjunctivitis. Yep. Pink eye.

Now, my doctor ordered me to stay away from people, wash my hands fanatically, swear off contacts for a while and the worst... a fate seemingly worse than death... chuck the eye makeup I've used recently.

I know I should be a good girl and do what I'm told... but THIS IS AWFUL! I need some advice folks.... I'm kind of lucky, since I've been traveling in recent weeks and been working with a limited makeup kit, so I know exactly what I used. The mascara (beloved Diorshow... tear) and liners were a no-brainer. But do I really have to chuck my entire Urban Decay palette? Is there anyway to sterilize this stuff somehow?

Anyone have experience with this? What about brushes and other makeup?

ARGH... the curse of expensive makeup. At least I have an excuse to give hubby for going to Sephora... hehehehe.

Now that the Real Housewives of Atlanta is over, the next season of the Real Housewives of Orange County is returning for a 4th season on Tuesday, November 25th at 10 PM ET on Bravo. Most of the women of this cast are over 40 with the exception of the new chick, Gretchen. I have to say, they make 40 + look fun, well at least most of the time. If you like excess in every sense of the word, they are sure do deliver - more money, more jewels, more boobs (yes the OC women love their implants!) and more drama!

Gays' right to marry is nation's newest struggle

Imagine that you lived in a society where 90 percent of the people were gay. You were straight, and you were quite happy that way.

You didn't want to change, and you didn't see yourself as "immoral," even though others labeled you as such. You paid your taxes, worked hard and tried to live by the Golden Rule.

Now imagine that in this society, heterosexuals weren't allowed to marry.

Oh, you could still live with your partner, but you couldn't get the economic benefits of marriage. And you'd have to spend thousands of dollars to draw up legal contracts in case of illness or death of you or your partner, rights that would come automatically with a marriage license (which now costs $93.50 in Broward).

Now imagine that you made some noise about the blatant unfairness of the situation, some judges saw it your way, and in response the majority voted a straight-marriage ban into the state constitution.

This is where gays in Florida, California and 28 other states find themselves today.

I feel for them.

One of the things that bothered me most about last week's passage of Amendment 2 in Florida was the butchery of the English language that went along with it.

It was called "The Florida Marriage Protection Act."

How denying certain people from the civil institution of marriage "protects" it is beyond me.

Amendment 2 defines marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman and bars anything considered the "substantial equivalent thereof."

It should have been called the Marriage Exclusion Act or the Marriage Discrimination Act.

Just as the 1996 federal "Defense of Marriage Act" should have been called the "Restriction of Marriage Act." It restricts marriage to a man and woman and allows the federal government to deny tax and Social Security survivor benefits to same-sex couples.

I'm a heterosexual married man who thinks committed gay couples deserve the same opportunities and benefits as anybody else. And they shouldn't have to settle for a semantic compromise like "civil union."

Here's my wish for state marriage: Any two human beings who are at least 18 and aren't closely related by blood (i.e., first cousins or closer) could wed.

That pretty much takes care of the polygamy, bestiality and incest arguments that some raise.

Religions and religious institutions would be free to regulate the marriages they perform any way they see fit. That has nothing to do with the state.

How some people fail to see Amendment 2 or federal law as discriminatory mystifies me.

Somehow, proponents of Amendment 2 see gay couples wanting "special rights," not equal rights, in marrying.

That's like saying blacks wanted special rights, not equal rights, when they fought to attend the same schools as whites, or mixed-race couples wanted special rights in being allowed to marry.

Some say the gay rights struggle isn't equivalent to the racial civil rights struggle because blacks didn't have a choice being born black.

I don't think sexual orientation is a choice either, but let's say it is. That shouldn't excuse unequal treatment by the government.

After all, religion is a choice. Would we let the state (or a majority of voters in a state) ban Muslims from adopting, something gays aren't allowed to do in Florida?

I have a dream: That the time will soon come when loving couples are judged by the content of their character and strength of their relationship, not the gender of their partners.

Until then, brace yourself for the civil rights struggle of the 21st century.

easy paper decorations and my 1st white tree

since it's a recession and i am an artist i decided to make a lot of decorations from paper. i also got my very first artificial tree since i have allergies and my boyfriend has asthma (plus the dog likes to eat tree needles). these are the results of nights doing crafts until dawn because i am a night owl.

i printed reversed letters on card stock and then cut them out so when they were flipped you couldn't see the printed lines showing me where to cut. then just double stick taped them up. this is my first time with a fireplace so i was determined to spruce it up.

i did my tree in red and pink with white and red lights. i love it!

this is my hallway with little rectangular trees cut from patterned scrapbook paper set into the mirrors. i also used paper ornaments i made to hang from the table along with fake snow with some glitter on it to make it sparkle like fresh wet snow.

the hall also got some glittery branches with paper circles punched out and a smaller hole in the center.

in my dining room i did the same as the den but a new font

i used a paper idea i found online on design sponge's site and made some in different colors for family members to use as well. this was a pic before the tree was up and the presents were being stored in the dining room. i also used the lovely paper chain you learn when you are in 1st grade or something. i punched more paper circles and covered them in glitter and double stick taped them to the light fixture.

and finally, the area over the tv in the living room got some text as well. there are more circles punched out and hung from the letters.

If you like puppies, have a regular Internet connection, and poor time management skills, I suggest you back away from the live puppy cam and don't look back.

Grab coffee with a friend. Read a book. Go back to work. But do not enter this infernal portal of cute if you know what's good for you.

The first few times you're all, huh, I wonder what the pups are up to? Usually, they're in two modes. Sleepy, or rambunctious. Pay particular attention to the trouble-maker with the green collar. He's the one, invariably, who is stepping on some other oblivious pup's head or trying to incite a puppy riot. (I have my eye on you, mister.)

They look innocent, those pups. But crack cocaine probably looked innocent the first time some dumbass decided to smoke it. Yes, an extreme analogy, but when you find yourself, every hour, on the hour, needing some live pup-on-pup action, just because...you'll know you're doomed.

Just don't come runnin' to me. I warned you.
