Deck the Haus: Homemade Wrapping Paper

TeamSugar member AmberHoney sent me this photo of some decorating paper she made for a business associate of her husband's. She says, "I have only ever used newspaper or grocery-store bags (the inside of course) to wrap my gifts. I started because wrapping papers are just too expensive to rip open and litter the earth. I usually stamp, spray paint, or stencil paper bags. It's fun and you can personalize each."

I also sometimes make my own wrapping paper, though I have to say that AmberHoney's is some of the most sophisticated, design-savvy homemade paper I've seen in awhile.

What about you? Do you make homemade wrapping paper?

No, but it's a good idea if you have the time. I'm getting so fed up with the excess packaging and plastic bag world we live in that I'm wondering why I didn't think of this?

It's also a good activity for kids - getting them to design some custom wrapping paper is cute and thoughtful, plus it keeps them busy!

    Nice work btw!

this is a great idea! except one problem... I dont use paper bags... so i would have to actually go buy or get some to do this... therefore kinda defeats the purpose of saving paper.

Wow, thanks for the positive comments and to casasugar for posting my work! And I understand the whole saving paper idea (that's how this whole idea started in my head), if you don't have old grocery bags you can always use brown craft paper or go the gift bag route and hope the recipient uses them next year. PS: where's the spell checker, I had to use my dictionary?

I've bought a big pad of white paper from a teacher supply store and I wrapped the presents in those sheets and then cut out cute pictures and used a glue stick to glue them to the outside of the packages. My mom loved the packages so much she didn't even want to unwrap them! I think she took pictures of them. She's goofy like that!

I use magazine pages to mail my handmade cards in - great ideas for small gifts. Town & Country mag has some great pages and the paper is thicker than other mags. I like it a lot. I usually use newspaper (in the old days, don't read them now - my older neighbors are happy to give me theirs) and use a large (any color but black) felt marker and write MERRY CMAS, HAPPY CHANUAKAH (spell) and KWANZAA, etc. It usually gets rave reviews. Keep being creative it's good for the soul.
