This Just In: Blueprint to Fold

As if the recent demise of shelter favorite House and Garden wasn't enough bad news, now sources say that Blueprint is folding as well. According to fishbowlNY, the magazine billed as a "fresh, fun guide to personal style" apparently couldn't find enough of an audience. While not completely disappearing, Blueprint will be dialed back into a publishing schedule that will coordinate with Martha Stewart Weddings. The number of layoffs related to this action is unconfirmed, though a number of employees may be retained. The final issue of Blueprint will be January/February 2008.

This is a magazine that I, for one, will sorely miss.

For an excerpt from the official press release, available at fishbowlNY, just read more

According to the official press release,

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. today announced strategic plans for two of its publications for 2008. Going forward, the company will produce Blueprint as focused special interest issues within the home category, which it will introduce to brides-to-be through its established Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Bluelines, the Blueprint blog, will continue and the company anticipates growing Blueprint digital content across its websites. Blueprint magazine will discontinue publishing on a stand-alone basis after the January/February 2008 issue.

As more news comes in, I'll update Casa readers on developments.

Aw, I really liked Blueprint!! I think that it was a small fish in a large pond, and Martha Stewart Omnimedia didn't really market it as well as they could have. It was just as good as Domino and the like, and now I'll never see it because I'm not getting married anytime soon.

It was fun while it lasted, Blueprint!! The CD jewel case calendars are going to all my friends this Christmas thanks to you!!

I love Blueprint as much as I love Domino. What gives? I was just about to renew my subscription. So are they not publishing at all? I'm confused about that.

This stinks. Blueprint was a true original, and that's rare in the magazine world. How come dumb regurgitated crap like Cosmo is still going strong and a smart, useful mag like this one can fold? The world isn't fair.

NO!!! I loved this mag! So much so that last night I cancelled my three others so I could just stick to BP. Well darn it. Maybe it's because they are still trying to bill me for the free issue they sent... Hopefully I'm not to blame for the fold.

Dang, I just received the first issue of my subscription. I LOVE this magazine and have been inspired by many of its articles. I wonder how I get my money back since I'll receive just 2 issues total?

I'm so disappointed to hear this! My sister introduced me to this mag and I loved it so much...I was thinking of canceling my subscription to Domino and switching to Blueprint. Good thing I'm lazy and didn't get to it yet!

I am SOOOOO bummed! This was my current FAVORITE magazine! and that says a lot - I read so many glossies my eyes get that way. Honestly, this is one of the only magazines I read cover to cover and wait for each month. I'm sending Martha a letter.

They will probably supplement your subscriptions with Martha Stewart Living or give you a refund for the remaining issues. When Jane folded recently, they started sending me Allure.

I think there's been a rash of new magazines that look like glorified catalogs. The covers are riddled with print rather than letting the picture do the majority of the work, and there are more advertising pages than actual layouts or articles. I thought that about Jane and I really think that whenever I get that damn Cookie magazine. I get that advertising is where the money is made, but as a subscriber, I liked Real Simple when it was just that- real simple.... and small.

=( This is totally my fav home magazine. This just sucks! I have t agree with hboogie and wonder why regurgitated hooey like U.S. Cosmo remains (The UK version is kinda of decent) and useful things like Blueprint must go under. Boo.

For everyone who has a subscription out to Blueprit: The usual practice when a magazine folds is to have another magazine pick up the rest of the subscription. I'm guessing that you'll probably get another Martha magazine in place of Blueprint, which, whatever your opinion of other Martha magazines, is either exciting or sad.

wow, i'm glad i cancelled my subscription. I'm in the minority here when I say that I wasn't impressed. Well, I guess not that much of a minority since they are folding...
