Gwyneth Paltrow's Feminine Hamptons Home

The summer home of Hollywood beauty queen Gwyneth Paltrow and her rocker hubby Chris Martin in Long Island's happening East End, which they purchased for $5.4 million in 2006, is featured in this month's House & Garden, and the word breathtaking doesn't begin to describe it. Paltrow, who took the digs' design into her own hands, chose a cool palette and clean lines, creating a space that is both functional for her family of four and illustrative of their individual styles. She stuck to muted tones throughout and used patterns sparingly, very much like her killer wardrobe. Martin's rock-and-roll vibe and UK heritage is asserted with needlework art by Ann Carrington depicting the Crown Jewels, and a geometric-patterned wallpaper in the powder room and charcoal cabinets in the kitchen bring the noir rocker look to a more sophisticated level. Sadly, though, there is no yellow to be found. The couple's three year old daughter, Apple, even had a hand in the design; she chose the fabrics for her canopy bed. Paltrow also made the place kid-friendly with stepping stools throughout for Apple and her one-year old brother, Moses. It's understandable to be envious of this superstar family, but you don't have to be: the prices of their décor range from the remote Tord Boontje Blossom Chandelier ($22,500) to the very near CB2 appetizer plates ($2.50). Furthermore, if you ever find yourself in need of a design guide, ask Gwen, who said, "I've become an encyclopedia of design for my friends." Stay tuned for tips on how to get the Paltrow-Martin's look, and for an inside look at other images from their magnificent home, read more

We would not make very good roommates, I do not like her taste. It seems very cold and un-inviting.

Overall, I think the pictures are fabulous. I do think that some rooms are a little TOO modern/empty but for the most part I love the clean lines and solid neutral colors.

it's very pretty - it suits her. I just wonder how much "living" celebs do in these homes. I know they are cleaned up for the photo shoot, but where are the magazines or piles of papers or shoe pile next to the door. Oh wait, that's my home ...

I think her home is beautiful. I'm not much for modern but I like simplicity and no clutter. Smiling

Hmm. This house has much more of a Palm Springs vibe.

"I've become an encyclopedia of design for my friends." LOL. Get over yourself.

The decorating is very nice. However, I think it's ridiculous people own multiple (incredibly expensive) homes when some people can't even afford one.

It's awful ... I understand it, but how uninviting. Ahh, dear Gwyneth, just cannot help promoting her brain. "I am a walking encyclopedia for my friends." Pathetic ...

Well if she ever decides to quit acting she should seriously consider becoming an interior decorator!! The rooms look wonderfully modern yet simple.

I actually really like this look. It's sophisticated and modern without looking too uptight and stuffy.

I liked the way she combined a few different styles. It's lovely. The kitchen is my favorite though.

i think it's got a nice vibe for what it is - a summer home - light, airy & not too cluttered.
I would luv to have all the money in the world so that i could decorate my place with the best furniture money could buy! Gwyn has picked out some really stunning pieces.

But what surprises me is that as a mother-of-two she has got a lot of light coloured couches! so i'm guessing the kids aren't allowed to go crazy in the house.

This is not a house that's lived in. It's a museum.
