For good reason, tufted furniture is everywhere these days, and has been for centuries. But what exactly is it? Upholsterers achieve this look by threading through layers of fabric or leather, often in a pattern, and securing the ends of the thread with a knot or button. The dense clusters that this technique creates are known as “tufts."

Headboards, ottomans, sofas, and other tufted furniture come in all styles, shapes, and forms. Tufted ottomans, which double as extra seating, are a smart coffee table alternative.

Find this "Benson" Tufted Headboard ($609-$719) at Horchow.

I adore tufted furniture. It's hard for me not to make my house overdose on it.

I saw one of the carpenters on Trading Spaces or While You Were Out doing tufting in one episode, and it looked so difficult! Lots of pulling and tugging.
