Nice and New: Ikea's 2008 Catalog Is Online

I have a love-hate relationship with Ikea, as I'm sure many of you do, too. But not even my worst Ikea-shopping flashbacks can dampen my enthusiasm for the Swedish retailer's new catalogs. Ikea just posted its 2008 catalog online in an easy flip-through format that lets you peruse all 372 pages.

The store has some great new textile patterns with huge doses of color, not to mention some sleek furniture offerings. To see a few of my first-glance favorites, read more

Blues and seafoam green abound. I'm digging this graphic pillow (at center) and these soft-looking oceanic rugs.

This innovative flat-pack chair snaps together without any screws, and it looks like a very comfy little rocker.

Don't you love these new fabric rolls? The pop-floral pattern on the black is really eye-catching.

I picked up a copy free at Ikea. I think you can also fill out an online form on the Ikea website to get it mailed to you, also free. Not sure.

The one thing I hate about Denver is that there is no Ikea (or Trader Joe's). I used to spend afternoons at Ikea when I lived in Virginia and California, just looking around and having Swedish meatballs at the restaurant (my family is Swedish, Ikea is a tradition with us). Has anyone ever ordered online from them?

I wish Ikea would update their websit so that everything is available for purchase online. I live about 45 minutes away from the closest store. It's not that bad but I don't want to drive that far for a few little things

I live in Nashville and people drive the 4 hours to the Atlanta IKEA all the time! It makes sense though. Nashvegas is a trendy city, full of industry and people like to look cool and live cool without breaking the bank. I used to live in San Diego and would go to IKEA all the time for odds and ends. I was spoiled. But IKEA in Atlanta is a fun excuse for a roadtrip Smiling

I, too, wish they'd make stuff available online. About a month ago, I went to the ATL IKEA, and they were out of the one fitted sheet that I wanted. So when I got home (about an hour and a half S of ATL), I looked online, only to see that the sheet was only available in stores. Not helpful, IKEA!! I'll probably drive back up there to get it (if they're even in stock), but still...

I couldn't find where to fill out the form for it to be mailed to you. I just realized since I moved, they don't forward catalogs, so mine will be floating around somewhere. Sad I hope they put them in the paper like they did last year.

I couldn't be more in love with IKEA. My apartment is basically furnished through that store alone.

At first it was really hard because I don't have modern taste AT ALL, but they've really started to cater to more traditional styles.

I can't WAIT to get my catalogue in the mail. Smiling

I love the blanket in the top left corner of that picture grid. I can imagine it on a neutral colored couch... especially perfect for the winter months when it feels amazing to snuggle up during a movie. Great finds!

Two more things...If you go to look at the catalogue online there's a thing there you can sign up to get it in the mail...It's not being put out in Massachusetts until September, boo...So that's why some of you may not have gotten it.

Second thing, I hear all of you who are mad there's not one closer to you. I live in Boston, and the nearest one is an hour away. It's not bad, but I kind of like it. If it was any closer I'd be there EVERY WEEKEND, and I just can't afford that. No matter how cheap it is. Sticking out tongue

It's super cute, and I LOVE that you have a love/hate relationship w/ IKEA -- I always have this mental struggle when I go there -- I have to weigh the pros of cute, sleek, furniture versus the cons of pain in the a$$ to put together and may fall apart! =)

i love, love, LOVE ikea! almost unhealthily Smiling

the magazines usually aren't mailed out for a considerable amount of time after they come out online. i'm not sure when they are available in stores, but i always have to wait several weeks--maybe even a month--after the cataglog comes out online before i actually get one in the mail.

I hate the idea of temporary furniture - i think it's so wasteful. BUT, I love Ikea in that you can find cute stuff for cheap - that's the bargain hunter in me I guess. I'll only visit the store if I have something specific in mind. Going on a weekend is like taking a trip to hell and back, crowded and chaotic....

We just got our first Ikea here in Michigan last summer. I think the closest one was in Chicago (a near 5 hour drive). I do have an unhealthy relationship with the store, I am ashamed to say that I even went to the grand opening..it was a huge deal for Metro Detroit. I've settled down since then. I tend to buy textiles and accessories more so than large furniture pieces. The quality is questionable although everything I have is super cute, I guess I will see in due time. Excited about the catalog though!

I love IKEA!! And I am so upset that they do have one here Vegas! I mean everything is here, why not IKEA?? They had this super cute desk/workstation that I wanted to get for my office but I did purchase when I was at their store in San Diego. Now I am really regretting it because they do not have it online. Sad

My whole apartment is pretty much all IKEA. I love my sofa being a smaller, more Euro scale. I'm short so my feet actually hit the floor and I don't sink in. American furniture is mostly too huge, but it's getting better.

I like the look of Ikea stuff, but I was noticing some comments about the stuff being cheap and not long lasting or durable--is that something I should really be concerned about? Or are these for particular products?

hihowareya - the IKEA stuff ranges in price from very cheap to higher end and in many styles to suit just about everyone. certainly, their very cheap plastic stuff will not last as long as say a leather sofa that is well made - they carry it all so you can get just what you need and can afford. yes, it does last a long time. i would recommend their products 100%!!
