Better Than Your Average Bean Bag

Bean bag chairs are a staple of rec rooms and college dorms. They're comfy, versatile, and even available in sports motifs to match your favorite team (please, just don't). But rarely has anyone accused a bean bag chair — particularly one shaped like a football — of being chic.

That's why I'm itching to sink down into one of these high-design interpretations of the good ol' vinyl bean bag. These three bags would sit attractively in the corner of any well-decorated room, ready to make an appearance anytime you needed some extra seating for guests.

The Fatboy Original ($229) would be great for movie-watching. It's basically a great big pillow that multi-tasks as a chair, a recliner, or a cushion. Available in 15 colors or three Marimekko patterns for $299.

Two more better-than-average bean bags, so read more

Uno Design Florence Broadhurst Bean Bag Chair ($239) is about as elegant as a bean bag chair is going to get, with its parlor-worthy floral pattern and cozy texture. (Thanks Another Shade of Grey.)

The Sumo Lounge Omni ($129) is a big nylon sack that can morph into a chair, a love seat, and a mattress and looks great whatever way you want to use it. Comes in seven colors.

My cousin has a "fatboy" which I've tried out. It's amazing! It practically defies gravity! You can sit in like a chair or anything. Love it!

Oh I would love one of those! I had a bean bag way back when but these look much more comfortable.

OMG I think I'm in love with the UNO Design one. Bean bags remind me of fourth grade, when my teacher had bean bags scattered on the floor to use for movie day; so I have a bit of a soft spot for them.

I can't believe the LoveSac wasn't listed here! Technically, it's not filled with beans. It's filled with Durafoam. Oh man are those things comfy! I have an 8' one in my living room (it actually replaced our couch... lol!)

you could just get an actual recliner for that much. but i'd be totally willing to make my own giant pillow.

These are gorgeous! And they look incredibly comfy too. But I'm with cretinhop - I'd just make my own.

I think that this is a great idea and the fact that it comes differntly, like a chair, recliner. I might have to get one.

Those look comfortable and cute and would work really well in a tween or teen room. Adults should not have these in their home. It's the same as a futon. Once you can afford more quality pieces things like these have got to go. For the prices of these bean bags you could get much more style by purchasing something off Craig's List or buying it second hand.

It looks cute. But for a teenager or kids playroom.
