Have You Built a Fire Yet This Fall?

It's just starting to get chilly here in San Francisco, so it's about time to start putting my fireplace to work. I love the ambient lighting of a good ole fire, so I usually look forward to those cold Winter nights spent curled up by the fire. Have you built a fire yet this season?Source

We've had probably five or six already! That's what life in MI will do for you Sticking out tongue (Although, to be fair, our first one was questionable - it wasn't really that cold out, but we were just excited to have our first fire of the year!)

Yes, but I guess I haven't really "built" a fire because we have a gas fireplace!

I don't have a fireplace, but I wouldn't want one where I am now, so the "waaaa" doesn't apply to me. We could have bought a condo in our building with one for an extra $78,000... or an identical unit without one for $78,000 less. It was absolutely not worth the $78,000... and the apartment I lived in before had a fireplace, and in two years I never once used it. Personally, I think fireplaces in an apartment/small condo are absurd, because they make your entire place smell like that distinct wood-burning scent... which I love, but then all your clothes smell like it. Fireplaces should only be for two+ level houses, so your living quarters can be far away!

I have a woodstove, and I use it to heat my house in the evenings to save money.

I love the fireplace and so do my two cats. I don't "build" one as much as flick a switch but it is what I use to heat my condo for the winter. I rarely turn on the heat.

I have a gorgeous fireplace that I love, but it's been so incredibly warm here in San Francisco that there's been no need for it yet! They're predicting that it will be in the 80s this weekend.

We've had too many to count already. We keep our thermostat set at 55 degrees and use our wood stove to heat our house. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the heat generated by wood, there's just something so comforting about it.

we just moved in in April so we need to get it professionally cleaned before we do. I'm excited/scared--I sort of wish it were gas because I'm afraid that one stray spark will burn it all down!

Not yet. I purposely got an apartment that has one, so I just flip the switch, but I'm kind of disappointed because it honestly doesn't warm the place at all! I can sit right in front of it and not notice it. It's more for ambiance, but then I worry that my dog will somehow catch on fire or something. So the dream is not as fun in reality!
