This Just In: Natalie Portman Is Homeless

Natalie Portman recently stopped by The Late Show With Dave Letterman and admitted to being homeless. Apparently, after she sold her West Village condo in October, she moved back to her parents' home in Long Island, where she'll camp out until she finds a new place. She said, "I'm a Long Island girl. Yeah, I just went and voted out there because I'm homeless right now and residing with my parents." Here are the pros and cons of living with your 'rents, according to Natalie:

  • Pros: It seems like a lot of fun in the beginning: "You get like . . . good meals, your laundry done."
  • Cons: "It's rough. I'm old to be residing with the parents." And, they scream at her: "They're like, 'Get a job!'"

Well, Miss Natalie may be homeless, but at least she has $6 million to keep her warm this Winter.

I love her because she's so down to earth and normal! An actual celebrity that you could be friends with.

I like Natalie, but it has always bothered me when well-off people say that they're "homeless" when they're just crashing with friends or family. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I see dozens of truly homeless people living on the street every day — so maybe Natalie could say "I don't own a house right now" instead.

I agree with you Bella ... or "I'm living with my parents right now." She has a home -- she isn't homeless.

as someone who works with people who are actually homeless, I find this somewhat offensive. maybe natalie should wait to complain when she's sitting in the backed up Department of Transitional Assistance offices with three screaming children in tow.

I see what you guys mean about the homeless thing- but Natalie's always shown herself to be a kind and caring person, so I honestly don't think she meant anything by it.

Honestly, I don't know how anybody can be offended by her off the cuff "homeless" statement. It's mostly just a figure of speech, and she was kidding around. And she has no permanent place of residence, which, by definition, makes her very literally homeless (according to Merriam-Webster - if you believe in that dictionary, actual meaning junk...*eyeroll*).

Bella, I'm with you...I sort of wish she would have worded another way.

she seems sweet...being in my ever-transitional mid-20s I wouldn't feel wholly comfortable with the prospect of moving back in with my parents, as much as I love them Smiling

Aw... she's a sweet girl. She just needs some love. Of course she could get a place, I guess she just wanted to be with family for the holidays. Cheer up Natalie Smiling

I don't see the big deal with her using that term... but if it bothers people... she could just say "I'm without a home of my own"

She's so lovely! She's a smart, educated lady - I thought her "homeless" remark was a way of joking about her situation, not offensive at all, she is after all without a home of her own at the moment after years of living independently

I agree Bella, I know it's just a figure of speech but it's insulting when it comes from a celebrity while some people *are* homeless.

Cute she went back home though. Smiling (I'll admit it, I'd love to move back home)

Everyone has a right to be offended about anything they want, however, being insulted about the phrase "being homeless", especially when used in as a figure of speech, is a little much. To me, it is like being offended when someone says "I'm starving" when actually, most people who say this, which is most people, are not actually starving and many people in places like Africa are, or when people use "I'm dying of heat, I'm dying to get those shoes, I'd die for this tickets...when a lot of people are dying in a morbid, health related way....anyway, you get the point!
