Would You Get Married on a Farm?

According to a recent New York Times article, farms are quickly becoming a popular wedding venue for many couples. There are many advantages to a farm wedding, including a reduced price tag. According to the article, "Farms Are For Lovers," "Farm weddings can cost a fraction of nuptials at more traditional sites, because couples usually take care of services like catering and music. And small farmers like pulling out the hay-covered welcome wagon because it helps them survive."

I wouldn't mind. You have the acreage to set up anything you want depending on the theme of your wedding. I could just imagine how organic and savory the food would be.

No, I am a city person all the way. Plus my allergies to all things farm would get in the way.

I think it can be cute as long as you go with the farm/country theme. My husband and I aren't really what you'd consider farm types, but when we were looking for affordable venues, I was considering ALL my options- a farm included.

I'm actually planning on getting married at my parents' property on the river. They have just over an acre, and it's very secluded. It's not a farm but it's EXTREMELY rural, gorgeous, and free!

I would totally get married on a farm if I were a wedding type of person. We just went to the court house.

I got married in a church, but we had our reception at my parents' farm. I grew up on a walnut farm, there was lots of room, it was free, it was August so the weather was perfect, it was great!

If I pretend for a second that I'm not already married, getting married on a farm is just not my style. Plus, I never wanted to get married outside. I'm somewhat of a worrywart, so I'd be covered in stress pimples thinking about whether or not it was going to rain that day. I'm glad my husband and I opted for a church ceremony and a modern reception venue. :]

I wouldn't for two reasons: 1) neither my fiance nor I have any personal affiliation with farms in anyway, so it wouldn't feel true to us and our style. 2) With all the travel for people to get out to a farm and go back and forth between hotels, etc, it actually wouldn't be a very eco-friendly option for us. Getting married in the city is actually proving to have way less environmental impact for us than doing it at a winery or other space in the "country." And the Green wedding effort is actually really important to us as a couple.

I've always wanted to get married outside anyway, so I wouldn't be opposed to it.

i am not a fan of indoor weddings. i got married outside in a garden/park type setting and would've been totally down for a farm wedding if it was an intimate and romantic--not too country.

It looks like it could be fun, but having been on my uncles farm I donno. The animals and all of that kind of irk me when you put wedding + Farm and Farm Animals together. Too grungy for my taste.

It wouldn't really mesh with our "simple elegance" theme, but we could make it work. Smiling

Also, my fiancé grew up on a farm, so it could serve as a nice tribute to his late father. Hmmm, you've got my wheels turning now. We haven't picked a venue yet...

I went to a wedding this summer that took place on a goat farm and it was great! We had yummy fresh goat cheese worked into every course, and during the ceremony barn cats fell asleep in the makeshift "aisle." The farm also had free range chickens and peacocks strutting around while we ate and danced in the moonlight. If you are a very laissez-faire couple I think it works very well.

    Not for me...
Ugh. I can't even imagine trying to walk around in pretty high heels around a farm... yuck.

some of the funnest wedding receptions come in the form of a barn dance!! casual is nice...while you think you might want something super fancy and white, in the end, casual = relaxed = less stressed = fun

most farms that will hold a wedding will be sure to clean up poop and get animals out of the way if you don't want them near. Do you really think they'd be like Sorry I know it's your wedding but we're not picking up the cow pies! A friend of mine got married at a farm, the reception in the barn, it was very elegant, sort of rustic but VERY beautiful.

nope - i'm not a farm girl. i've looked into different options for my wedding in the spring and we've considered wineries but a farm? i'd have to say no to that one.

I absolutely fell in love with the mountain town where I went to college and I think I'd like to get married there when the time comes. I would want the ceremony in a church but the reception in a huge cabin up the mountain somewhere. Not exactly a farm but I'm open to that type of set up.
