Since I grew up in the Midwest, I associate mid-September with falling leaves, chilly temperatures, and apple picking. However, here in California, where I've lived for seven years, I'm still getting used to the concept of mild seasons. As if to prove this to me, my rosebushes, which were just blooming back in May, are back in full yellow-and-red splendor again. I suppose I'll get used to it eventually, right?

I personally love that about CA. I've lived here my whole life and I love the mild weather. I love not having Winter clothes and summer clothes, that my plants and veggie gardens last all year, that we don't get blizzards or tornados or hurricanes (yes we get earhtquakes, but I've personally lived through quite a few and have never had any damage. Big ones happen rarely). And really if you want seasons, try northern california. Sonoma County is beautiful during fall, leaves changing colors, grape harvest. Then head to Tahoe for snow and wintery things. That's what great about CA, you can have it all

It's rough, but those lovely rosebushes should ease the transition Renee said it well, and I grew up near Tahoe and went to college in Sonoma County so I'll vouch for both of those places! There is nothing like springtime in a vineyard, with the stark, bare, gnarled grapevines juxtaposed against the brilliant yellow mustard blooms, and they do have wonderful fall colors there as well.

This is something I've had to get used to in the SW as well. My Roses go dormant in the super hot Summers and then are resurrected when the cooler temps come, and I often have Roses up until almost Christmas
