Wow, I've been thinking about doing this for a long time and I'm not sure how it would look in my home if I do it. A portrait of me and my son in black and white. I guess if done in a moderate size that won't overwhelm the space it might be OK.

I would love to do this to a pix of my mom and me kissing but my sister would KILL me. It is her least favorite pix in the world.

I am a photographer, so of course I am very much in love with the idea of large portraits in a home. Personal photos (if well displayed) can really add so much character to a home. I have a black and white wedding portrait of my husband and I that I love. It is a 20x20 portrait that is mostly an architecture portrait, you can see us super small in the bottom right corner on the balcony of the hotel we got married at. It will never go out of style, it is beautiful!

I think it depends upon the space and how the portrait is displayed. One of my favorite artists, Paul Klee, often painted small in order to get the viewer in close, to be intimate with the image. I've tended to adopt that philosophy in my own style. But I've also seen large works in big spaces and they seem to fit. If it's a lovely or meaningful image, I see no reason why not.

Bigger than life self-portraits in my house would be a def. no no. I picture those in huge open spaces w/ lots of walls. I have thought about enlarging prints and then showcasing them on smaller canvases.

I would love to do this, thought I would look vain!

My dining room is very dark blue and it was hard to find something for the walls. I had a picture taken of my daughters in a white and sepia, the frame is 16 X 20 I believe and everyone LOVES it. I actually wish I had gotten a larger one done of them, so I think i'll be going back. I was thinking this time something of a very long rectangle for in my hallway with them lying next to one another or something? Have to see what happens.
