Midday Muse: An Extension of Home

Too many times, I'm guilty of thinking of "home" as my house. Every time I visit a community garden, drop by a public park, or take a stroll around my city, I'm reminded that home means much more than my house. Home is your neighborhood, your street, your city, your country — the entire world. The more that we can cultivate this attitude, the safer and more vibrant our homes will be, however broadly we define that term.

    so true. i often find myself thinking that i want to be home - but not my physical house, because i hate where i live, but just to get to that feeling of warmth and comfort and things/people i love around me.

    This reminds me of a Henry Miller quote, I can't remember it verbatim, but it was something to the effect of, "The whole world is my home, it was only I who made the boundaries."

    I totally agree, although it's frustrating to see things happen to your (city) home that you don't agree with, or that you know would be bad for the city...i.e. poor urban planning or development (i.e. wal-mart on the Toronto waterfront. Why not develop park space??)
