IM Gives Shy Guys a Chance

Do you know many guys who are socially awkward in person, but once they're in front of a computer they transform into confident ladies' men? Well for Roger Hobbs, a total nerd away from the computer, the Internet became his alter ego. This past weekend, the New York Times showcased the story of Roger, from the trials and tribulations of his Love 2.0 experiences, to the power of online conversation in allowing him to "escape his loser identity and become the super-cool cyber Casanova he thought he deserved to be."

With technology giving him the confidence boost he needed, Roger felt that he had mastered his love life, and knew the secret recipe for getting girls to like him — online that is. As soon as he got a girl's IM name, the words and seduction poured out on the screen.

He says: "Nothing was too challenging. I first seduced my best friend’s girlfriend and, when they broke up, I seduced his new girlfriend. I had a girlfriend in New York and one in Philadelphia. I had a girl I met on a train and a girl I met in a nightclub. I had a Republican and a Democrat, an artist and an engineer, a Christian and an atheist."

Have you heard of this happening very often? Are these the same guys who think it's OK to break up via email?

These are the same guys who discovered myspace, facebook and another social networking sites where why would you settle for one woman when you can 'romance' a handful at a time. They aren't serious about anything except playing a 'role' and milking it for what it is worth. And for what it's worth, if you have been broken up with via email consider yourself lucky, text message breakups are on the horizon.

Guh. This guy is so sad. What's the point of only being able to be smooth online?

So like. Did he get any ass or did he never get that far?

not ok. this is why kids are having more trouble dealing with their emotions. i have a friend who argues with her step-daughter on myspace because she can't have a conversation when she's upset. i'm glad they found a way for her to express herself, but in the long run not having those communication skills will catch up to you.

Ok, so my roommate is a shy-guy, and he does most *ahem* all of his girl-meeting online. Hasn't turned out perfectly for him, but not because he's not what they expect. A few were too clingy, and a couple are his good friends now. But the point is, he carries on a great conversation, just can't start one with a pretty girl he barely knows looking at him. He just lays a foundation, then meets them. And he's never played multiples.

This guy is a load of crap and makes the few men who actually look for sincere relationships through online means look bad.

I mean come on..."seducing" both his best friend's then-girlfriend and new girlfriend? What kind of friend is he?

Wow, a guy who is both a sleezebag and a douchebag at the same time.
