Casa Verde: mkLotus House

I've been a fan of Michelle Kaufmann's green designs for modular, prefabricated homes for quite a while now. Last Fall, her mkLotus house was displayed at West Coast Green, which I was lucky enough to attend. These houses are built to accommodate such green features as a graywater system, geothermal heating, and solar panels. The mkLotus is built using sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies, including spray-in, open-cell foam insulation, structural-insulated panels, FSC-certified wood, an on-demand water heater, and double-pane low-e windows and glass doors.

To see a video tour of the MKLotus, just read more.

It looks like a West Elm store. I'd definitely be interested in seeing what else they had to offer ie finishes etc.

    I love her designs!
As a future architect myself, she is an inspiration to me.
However (and I'm not trying to be negative), the houses are expensive. We looked at getting the glide-house when it first came out but the expense of delivery, inspection, fabrication, etc + land was more than having a local contractor built the same house on site. Maybe they take less time to be built if pre-fabricated… but I don’t know how much less. And maybe they cost less to buy now.
    Does anyone know?

Oh I love the designs! I wouldn't mind paying a little bit more knowing that the homes are eco-friendly and made from recycled materials. I love them, when it's time to buy a home, I'm definitely considering MK!!
