i got one of those things for xmas, but it included the magnetic bar and about 6 containers... the only thing is, if i want to lable them, i would have to write on them with my bad handwritting... or create my own labels which wouldnt be as pretty... or ... yeah... lol i donno. they are sitting empty right now
But i do think this is a good idea... and i already have one of those knife magnetic strips...

I've seen this before..it looks cute. I think this is an instance where one of those label makers would come in handy! I like it but I'm hesitant because I'm a clutz and I worry I'd knock them over. Same thing with the knives....I worry about mine even though they are on the back of the counter, safe and sound in their wooden block. =/

My boyfriend has this setup in his apt. I loved it. Although I have to say I would be a bit more weary with cats that they would jump up and try to pull stuff down. (and hurt themselves)

i love this look...but i like having spices in shakers, and this is not so conducive to that...

askmetostay: the ones i have, you twist the top and you have small holes to shake or a bigger whole to pour it out.

Even though it looks great, I would still be paranoid about the strength of the magnets

I made one of these a while back after seeing them in stores and loving the way it looked. The only problem is that the jars themselves are kind of a pain to get in & out of as quickly as I would like. I used Dean & Deluca jars that originally held candies, so I can only imagine how much of a hassle getting cheapy jars open and shut would be. If I were going to do it over again I would spend the dough to get really good jars with that shaker function others have mentioned. Also, the labels on the sides where they can't be seen unless you pick it up and look was annoying. I think this is one of those things that is nicer to look at than to actually use in a day-to-day basis. I just wasn't that impressed.

I've always liked these, but I don't really have the wall space in my kitchen. I could only hang one or two strips.

Nice idea for the spices but I'm no way sticking knives on my wall---too dangerous.

i have some of these on a strip and on my fridge (not much wall space!) and love them.

i have the tins (my knives are not good enough for hanging) that i got with a gift card to bed bath and beyond. i have a cat and even though he's not allowed on furniture when i'm home we all know they do it at night and when we're away. He's never once gotten into the stuff and is good at leaving the stuff alone. I you are fearful, put it in an area not near the counter or fridge (i've caught my cat on the fridge that wasn't near any other item in the kitchen...i am not sure how that was possible). don't let your cat keep you from trying, aimeeb.
